1: What's the difference between the electronic edition and the print edition?
A: The e-edition contains all the news, photos, ads, box scores and special sections that appear in the printed version of The Tehachapi News. It's a clickable replica of the newspaper, but available anywhere you have an Internet connection.
2: What is the cost of the electronic edition subscription?
A: The current price is $0.75 for a single copy/one week access or $12.00 per year, well below the cost of the printed newspaper. The subscription fee is charged automatically to your credit card, unless you contact us to cancel your subscription.
3: When I log in to the electronic edition, I get a screen that is asking whether I have a dialup connection or broadband connection. What is this?
A: Dialup connection through a modem is a much slower connection speed and is not optimal for viewing the electronic edition. This screen tells us that you need a version optimized for that slower connection.
4: When I try to log in, I am simply returned to the login page with no error message. Why is this happening?
A: The most likely explanation is that you're running a personal firewall such as Zone Alarm Pro or McAfee. If that is the case, you'll need to add our IPs to your "Trusted Zones" area.
5: When I call up a story in the clickable paper, what are my viewing options?
A: By double clicking on a particular article you can view the article as it appears in the newspaper or view a text version of it. You can email or print the story in either mode. Just use the icons at the top of the story for print or email.
6: The text is too small to read. How can I enlarge it?
A: You can expand the type size by clicking on the plus or minus signs on the toolbar on the top of the screen to zoom in and out of the particular page you are viewing. This can also be done within a story window. You can also zoom in and out of the page itself by using the scroll wheel of your mouse.
7: When I've clicked on a story, how can I make the story window larger?
A: Just drag the triangle in the bottom right-hand corner of the story window. You control how much larger to make the window.
8: Where are previous issues?
A: An archive of previous issues can be found by clicking on the "Back Issues" button in the top left of your e-edition viewer.
9: What if I am only interested in specific topics, like CSUB Basketball?
A: The e-edition has a robust search engine so it's easy to find exactly what you want. Just click on the "Search" tab in the upper left corner of the e-edition viewer, type in your keyword and use the pulldown menus to customize your search options.
10: Can I print out articles, photos, and features such as crosswords and comics?
A: Yes. Simply click on the element you want to print, and click the icon of the printer in the top toolbar.
11: Can I email the crossword or comics to another user?
A: Yes you can. Just click on the feature you want and select the email icon.
12: I'm on AOL. Why am I having difficulties viewing the electronic edition?
A: Due to a browser limitation, AOL users must initialize the browser window first before starting to navigate the clickable edition. To initialize the browser window, simply resize the browser window once. NOTE: Some versions of the AOL browser will not display the electronic edition. If you are able to log in but pages won't load, please try this corrective action: Dial in to the Internet as usual using your AOL connection. Then close the AOL browser and open your default Internet Explorer browser (or Netscape, if you prefer it).
13: You are collecting personal information when I sign up. Is this being offered to any third parties?
A: This information is for internal use only. Those who sign up will receive emails from us on occasion. But your personal data is not being sold and is shared only with the third-party company that authenticates your e-edition subscription when you sign in.
14: Does the download take a long time?
A: On broadband connections, the download can take only a few minutes, depending on your Internet connection. On a dial-up connection, your downloads will be much longer.
15: Can I download the entire paper as a PDF?
A: PDF, or high-resolution image, is primarily for users who want to download the entire paper for offline viewing later. The news pages and individual articles and ads are already optimized for Web viewing. But if you want to download a PDF of the paper, you will need to have Adobe Acrobat Reader on your computer.
16: I can't see the whole page on my screen. What do I do?
A: If you cannot view the entire width of the page, find a scroll bar along the bottom edge of your Web page. You can scroll right or left to view more of the page. You can also navigate up and down using the scroll bar on the right edge.
